About This Course
This course will navigate you through setup, operation and etiquette surrounding the military and common civilian radio equipment. This is NOT a SIGINT course, this is a Sincgars and basic radio operation and theory course in order to be successful under the auspices and guidance of basic warrior skills and task levels. Since this is an open enrollment course, crypto fill and application will be limited. For expansion on those topics, please see your S6 shop at your local armory.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Understand the basics and capabilities of Sincgars and COTS (commercial off the shelf) radio equipment
- Gain some understanding how radios work and their signals propagate
- Understand terrain, LOS (line of sight limitations), non-line of sight capabilities, and other basic principles to help you plan and execute proper radio communications
- Understand the importance of selecting the proper equipment, power levels, antennas, and frequencies, weather and time of day considerations on communications performance
